Adjustment Layers

Non-destructive image adjustments are changes you make to an image without fully changing the original picture. This means you can adjust things like brightness, color and contrast, but the image stays the same. If you don't like the changes, you can easily undo them or adjust them again without losing any of the original details.

This method helps designers alot because they can experiment with different changes and fix stuff they don’t like  without worrying about ruining the original image.

Adjustment layers are tools in programs like Adobe Photoshop that let you change the appearance of an image without changing the original picture. Here's what I learned about each adjustment layer and how they work:

1. Brightness/Contrast : This layer lets me make your image lighter or darker. It's like turning the lights up or down and deciding how sharp the dark areas should be compared to the light ones. It’s always pretty simple to use.

2. Levels: This tool helps me to control the brightness and contrast in a more detailed way. I can adjust the shadows, midtones, and highlights separately.

3. Curves: Curves lets me make very precise adjustments on the image’s brightness and contrast. I can create a curve on a graph to control how dark or light different parts of my image will be.

4. Hue/Saturation: This layer changes the colors in my image. "Hue" lets you shift the colors (like turning red to blue), while "Saturation" controls how bright or dull the colors are.

5. Color Balance: This layer lets you adjust the colors of shadows, highlights. It can add more red, green, or blue to different parts of the image.

6. Selective Color: This adjustment focuses on changing specific colors in my image.

7. Black & White: This layer turns my image into grayscale (black and white). I can also control how different colors convert to gray, so I can make some parts of the photo lighter or darker in black and white.

8. Photo Filter: This layer lets me apply different colored filters to my image,

These layers help designers because they can adjust the image and test different things without permanently changing the original. If i don’t like the changes, i can go back and tweak them or remove them completely.
